In a neck-and-neck race, the crime thriller “Takers” edged out the horror tale “The Last Exorcism” to top the weekend box office, but only by about $146,000, according to final figures released.

“Takers” earned $20.512 million in its debut weekend, while “The Last Exorcism” debuted with $20.366 million, according to Hollywood.com.

“The Last Exorcism” began the weekend in first place thanks to a big Friday, but its drop-off in audience over the next two days allowed “Takers” to claim the top spot, the box-office tracker reported.

“The Expendables” continued to attract movie-goers, earning another $9.5 million to place third, while Julia Roberts’ “Eat Pray Love” earned $6.8 million.

The Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg buddy comedy “The Other Guys” collected $6.3 million to place fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 films were “Vampires Suck” ($5.2 million); “Inception” ($4.9 million); “Nanny McPhee Returns” ($4.7 million); “The Switch” ($4.6 million); and  “Piranha 3D” ($4.3 million).
