INGLEWOOD – Authorities have contacted the apparent parents of a 4-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister, who were found abandoned in an apartment complex, but so far the children are still in the custody of a child welfare agency, Inglewood police said.

Neighbors told police they saw a woman leave the children at an apartment complex in the 300 block of West Queens Street about 4:30 p.m. this past Saturday, said Inglewood police Lt. Michael Marshall.

“Witnesses said a black female adult left them there unattended, and after several hours, when they noticed the children did not belong to anyone in the complex, they called police,” Marshall said.

Police believe the children, who identified themselves as Kayshawn and Kimberly Denver, are brother and sister, Marshall said.

The lieutenant described the children as clean, well cared-for, lively and polite. “Someone has been raising them properly,” Marshall said.

“Someone out there should be looking for them.”

He said publicity about the children led some people who said they were relatives to come forward, and they contacted people who claimed to be the children’s parents.

But authorities are still investigating why the children were abandoned, and for now they will remain under the jurisdiction of the Los Angles County Department of Children and Family Services, he said.
