Thousands gathered on Brand Boulevard Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of rock and roll legend Chubby Checker’s number-one hit single, “The Twist,” as part of the City of Glendale’s 17th annual Cruise Night Car Show and Street Party. In recent years, the event has drawn more than 35,000 guests. This year, the fans joined Checker (shown above) in an attempt to be a part of the city’s goal of being inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most people doing “The Twist” at a given time. The effort was successful–1,692 people showed up, breaking the previous record by one person.
