Celebrate the arts in Leimert Park

Artworks by Greg Pitts, Matthew Thomas, Charles Dickson and Rob McMillion, are among the items that will be on display during the first Leimert Park Village Art Walk taking place June 27 from noon to 8 p.m.

This collaborative event featuring some of the galleries, bookstores, restaurants and other community shops in the Village is designed to bring fine art to the diverse community surrounding the village.

In addition to the visual arts display there will be dance, poetry, music and food. Leimert Park Village is located where Vernon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard intersect.

Dance legends helps close CAAM exhibition
The California African American Museum (CAAM) closes out its exhibit “Dance Theatre of Harlem: 40 Years of Firsts” with a special appearance by legendary dance master Arthur Mitchell during a program that begins June 30 at 7 p.m.

Mitchell, who was the first African American to become a principal dancer with a major ballet company (1955 ), and who founded the Dance Theatre of Harlem school more than 40 years ago, will share his personal recollections about his life and career. The event is free, but reservations are requested. Call (213) 744-2056.
