LOS ANGELES, Calif.–Three finalists were selected Tuesday for the 2010 “People All-Stars Among Us” national campaign, and one of those individuals runs community organizations. The contest recognizes individuals who are doing amazing things in their communities.

National League baseball  teams are participating and have selected people through online submissions from surrounding cities.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have chosen Zaid Gayle from Los Angeles, Zachary Kidd from Burbank, and Alma Martinez from Redondo Beach.

Gayle is the founder of Peace4Kids (P4K),  a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for foster and at-risk youth ages 5 to 24 in South Los Angeles neighborhoods. The organization focuses on building stability and strong relationships between children and adults.

P4K’s goal is to safely transition children into adulthood, make resources more readily available for youth, and help them successfully contribute to society and their own well being. The organization has been transforming lives since 1998.

Kidd, in collaboration with friends, established a micro-loan program for the women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in an effort to help them pursue entrepreneurial ventures through a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called Apromev.

“Our goal is to receive reports on how each woman is doing every two weeks from Apromev,” Kidd wrote in a blog. “My personal hope is that such a small action by us will bring about significant change to these women’s lives and their families’ lives.”

Martinez is the mind behind Amigos sin Barreras/Friends Without Barriers, an NGO committed to bettering the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. The organization’s approach is two fold: Prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and enhance the lives of those with the disease.

Amigos works closely with community institutions like churches, school, and health centers. Martinez launched the program in 1994 and continues to serve the community.

Dodger fans and community members are encouraged to vote for any of the three finalists at PeopleAllStars.com. Polls will be open until June 20, and winners will be honored at the 2010 All-Star Game on July 13. One winner will also be featured in People magazine during All-Star weekend.
