After months of wrangling, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Exposition Light Rail Authority have come to an agreement to put a station stop at Dorsey High School at Farmdale Avenue.

This new station would allow for increased mobility of local residents and Dorsey High School staff and students, according the Expo authority.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is holding a public participation hearing on the Exposition Construction Authority’s application for the Farmdale Avenue station June 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dorsey High School on the second floor of the library. The hearing will give the community an opportunity to voice their opinions and/or concerns about the new crossing, which is currently under construction and scheduled to open next year.

The train would make a complete stop at the Farmdale Avenue station to pick up and drop off passengers. The Farmdale Avenue crossing would include additional traffic signals and street lighting, as well as safety improvements such as pedestrian gates, and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) train approaching signs.

The proposed new Farmdale Station will cost an additional $10-15 million, and the new station would connect people to businesses in the Crenshaw and Mid-Cities communities, as well as to downtown Los Angeles and Culver City.

Damien Goodman, head of the organization Fix Expo which was launched in 2007 to inform the community about the numerous grave deficiencies in the downtown L.A.-to-Culver-City light rail transit project, believes people will be maimed by the train as it travels through South Los Angeles, which is why he is advocating that the trains go above or below the street at every intersection. His group is partially responsible for the pedestrian bridge that is being built at Dorsey High and is fighting for one to be built at Foshay Learning Center also.
