The Coalition of Mental Health Professionals (CMHP), located at 9219 S. Broadway, has helped more than 180,000 residents with emergency counseling services since it opened in 1992. CMHP provides individual, family and group counseling, crisis intervention, domestic violence classes and programs for senior citizens.

With the help of President Barack Obama’s stimulus package, CMHP was able to open a Family Source Center which provides Los Angeles residents with employment services, money management and parenting classes, food, clothing, child care, transportation help, tutoring, GED classes, and more at no charge.

In addition, Los Angeles residents who make less than $44, 400 per year qualify for immediate help with utility bills. Residents have received up to $800 to help pay for their light, water and power bills.

In addition to all of these services, the center has purchased 15 new computers, incorporated a tutoring program for children.

However, currently not enough Los Angeles residents are taking advantage of the services the Family Source Center provides. Consequently, the center has launched a campaign to enroll 900 more residents in the program by March 31. This will prevent Family Source from losing its funding.
