Compton, CA — Compton’s hotly contested primary election race held Tuesday toppled contenders and reinstated formerly elected officials.

Provisional ballots must still be counted and certified election results will be available next week.

Mayor Eric J. Perrodin handily won the mayor’s race with 3,041 votes over candidates Joyce Harvey Kelley and Lynn Boone.

Lillie Dobson won the Second District City Council race with 2,738 votes over Gwen Patrick and Elias Acevedo.

Yvonne Arceneaux was re-elected to the Third District City Council seat, marking her fifth term with 2,799 votes.

Three candidates are still vying for the Fourth District City Council seat. Amos Clay is currently ahead with 1,226 votes, while Dr. Willie O. Jones garnered 939 votes and Lillie P. Darden secured 916 votes. Clay will face a runoff with Dr. Jones and Darden June 2nd in the general municipal election.

Craig J. Cornwell won the City Attorney seat with 3,246 votes.

The City Clerk position was handily won by Alita L. Godwin with 3,267 votes. Douglas Sanders won the City Treasurer seat with 3,251 votes.

Compton residents voted in favor of Measure L with 2,357 votes. The measure will amend the city’s charter and update various sections in accordance with current California law. It will delete obsolete and unclear language and conform to current law and existing city policies. But Measure F, which would have banned the possession, storage, sale and/or use of any fireworks within city boundaries, failed to pass.
