Los Angeles, CA — Despite police reports that crime is down in the city of Los Angeles, gun violence continues to rock South Los Angeles.
In a 48-hour period from Sunday March 29 through Monday, March 30, deadly shootings rippled through South Los Angeles, claiming the lives of four young men.
On March 29, a 21-year old man was shot to death in the incorporated area of Florence, according to sheriff’s deputies.
The shooting occurred at 1:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of 59th Street, said Deputy Art Spencer of the Sheriff’s headquarters bureau.
The man, who has not been identified, and a friend were walking along 59th Street when a white compact pickup truck pulled up. Witnesses said that two men asked where the victims were from.
One of the suspects in the pickup began shooting, said sheriff’s Deputy Oscar Butao.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was struck several times in the upper body. It is reported that the shooting appeared to be gang related. The victim later died in the hospital.
The friend was not injured.
At 1:20 a.m. that same day, a 21-year-old man, who was also not identified, was struck by gunfire on East 43rd Street near Vernon and Compton Avenues. The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Less than 48 hours later on March 30 at 8:20 p.m., Limus White Jr., 18, was fatally shot in the 2700 block of Naomi Avenue in an apparent gang related shooting. Limus, a man in his 20s, was transported to a local hospital where he later died, said Ed Winter of the coroner’s office. The shooting was apparently gang related.
At 3:45 a.m., on March 29, a man was fatally shot when he got into an argument with an armed man outside a local bar who pulled out a gun and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. No suspect description was made available.
