Los Angeles, CA — Charisse Bremond-Weaver is no stranger to blazing trails. But the path she is on right now is one that has special meaning to the Los Angeles executive.

In 2006, the former Utah State basketball star, who has a special talent for building corporate and community partnerships, assumed the leadership mantle of an organization her father created in 1968.

Bremond Weaver is the first woman to lead the Brotherhood Crusade, and in that position, she is making her 21-year history in the community service sector felt.

Among her accomplishments are implementing in-school programs for at-risk youth at several local middle schools, two high schools, an elementary campus, the Imperial Courts Housing Development and the African American Unity Center. She has also led the organization to partner with Los Angeles Lakers Jim Cleamons to teach the youngsters math, science financial literacy and team building skills.

But perhaps one of her most important initiatives is a Youth Development plan that has as its aim to impact gang violence, youth delinquency and the adverse public health conditions in South Los Angeles.

What is unique about this effort is that it is a research-based plan that identifies 16 factors that contribute most significantly to young people joining gangs, becoming delinquent, dropping out of school or becoming victims.
