Depending on your taste the current DVD releases will make you laugh, cry or bring back old memories.
Sure to inspire and speak to your heart, “Milk” starring Sean Penn, winner of the 2009 Best Actor Oscar, is now on DVD. His electrifying performance reflects the Oscar winning screenplay written directly for the screen by Dustin Lance Black.
“Milk” is the story of Harvey Milk, a dedicated activist for gay rights, who helped change the heart of America by taking his fight to the halls of city government. In his early 40’s Milk moved from New York to San Francisco’s growing gay community and opened a camera shop, and it quickly became the place to be seen and heard. Fired up with “gay power” so to speak, Milk embarks on a political career that didn’t happen over night, but when it did, things began to change, his enemies began to grow culminating in his tragic death. The controversial murder by political figure Dan White, played by Josh Brolin made courtroom history. “Milk” the story of a man and how he woke up a nation.
It’s time to laugh with “Role Models” starring Paul Rudd (“Knocked Up”) and Seann William Scott (“Road Trip”). One is lazy and takes life as it comes, the other is angry and very uptight, making life a drag for anyone who spends too much time with him. So, why on earth would these two end up as role models for two young boys who have issues of their own? That’s the fun of “Role Models.”
After a series of mishaps the two find themselves forced to spend court ordered hours with two boys; Bobb’e J. Thompson (“Idlewild”) as Ronnie, a foul mouth prankster who feels he has to be the man of the house because his father is not around, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (“Superbad”) as Augie, who has totally escaped into a world of Dungeons and Dragons to the dismay of his mother and intolerant live-in boyfriend.
When the four come together it’s anything but harmonious. Danny (Rudd) and Wheeler (Scott) have their jobs cut out for them. In order for them to connect with the boys they have to grow up. The journey to responsibility is a hilarious one and not at all warm and fuzzy as a matter of facts it’s filled with maidens in distress and deposing a very rude and scandalous king. Be prepared to laugh out loud.
Good news, if you missed “Cadillac Records” starring Oscar winner for best actor Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”), as Leonard Chess founder of the label, the great actor Jeffrey Wright (“Casino Royale”), as the famous blues artist, Muddy Waters, Mos Def (“Be Kind Rewind”) as Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Chuck Berry, and Beyonce Knowles as Etta James. A bevy of other stars including Gabrielle Union, Columbus Short and Cedric the Entertainer also grace the screen.
Although this soulful film is a tale of sex, violence, race and rock and roll in 1950s Chicago.
“Cadillac Records” follows the exciting but turbulent lives of some of America’s musical legends.
With this stellar group of actors you can also count on outstanding performances, yours to keep in your personal film library.
If its action you grave then “Transporter 3” is waiting for you. This third installment starring Jason Statham (“In the Name of the King”) reprises his role as the no talking, lots of muscle Frank Martin. Once those driving gloves are on, you won’t know what to expect. This time he’s delivering the kidnapped daughter of a Ukrainian government official, sounds easy, but it’s dangerous and deadly, the action never stops.
“Role Models” is available on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def as well as, “Milk” and “Cadillac Records,” and “Transporter 3.”
