Four prominent Angelenos will be recognized during the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC), 16th annual economic awards dinner March 19 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel.
California State Speaker Karen Bass will receive the Julian C. Dixon public service award; Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will be given the chairman’s award; Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will get the public service award; and Earvin “Magic” Johnson, chairman and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises will be named GLAAACC executive of the year.
The theme of the dinner is “Building Economic and Political Coalitions,” and these individuals are being honored for the roles they have played in developing political coalitions and supporting African American businesses.
The awards dinner is held annually to recognize individuals as well as public and private entities that have advanced the cause for small and African American-owned businesses.
Master of ceremonies is actor Tommy Ford, of the television show “Martin,” and the event kicks off with a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and the program follow at 7 p.m.
