Los Angeles, CA — Passengers scrambled off the 40 line Monday night around 9 p.m. when a gunman pulled out a firearm and shot another passenger.

The shooting occurred as the bus came to a stop at Crenshaw Boulevard and West 60th Street in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles.

The victim was exiting the bus when he got into a dispute with the assailant. Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Section said that the two were apparently members of rival gangs.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Edward Walker III, was killed by a single shot to the head in what police are calling a gang related shooting.

The gunman fled the scene along with some of the passengers who were on the bus.

The victim’s family members arrived at the scene during the investigation and one relative was so distraught that he had a seizure and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The suspect is described as a male Black, 18 to 22 years of age. He was wearing a dark or black jumpsuit and a dark knit cap at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call (877) LAPD-24-7.
