Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-35) is hosting a town hall meeting in Inglewood on Saturday, May 17, to assist homeowners and help prevent foreclosures. The event will take place in the cafeteria of Inglewood High School at 231 S. Grevillea Ave. from 10 a.m. until noon. Waters will also address the impact that the foreclosure crisis has had on California homeowners and communities.
Mortgage providers will be able to answer questions from the public about loan modification and other foreclosure prevention methods. In addition, housing counselors will assist borrowers and provide information about mortgages.
Congresswoman Waters, who chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, has been a leader in developing legislation to respond to the foreclosure crisis that has occurred nationwide and has hurt California communities especially. Foreclosures in California have increased 213 percent since 2007, and the state ranks second in the nation in the number of foreclosures. Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Neighborhood Stabilization Act, H.R. 5818, legislation introduced by Congresswoman Waters to help states and communities most severely impacted by the foreclosure crisis.
