The Los Angeles Multi-School Jazz Band (LAMSJB), featuring top student musicians, performs in a free community concert on Friday, May 9 at the Bradley Senior Center from 11 a.m.. to 1 p.m.
Established in 1991 by director Reggie Andrews, the gifted ensemble of students and alumni will perform a mixture of bebop and swing, with classics from big band legends Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Gerald Wilson and others.
LAMSJB is comprised of exceptional young musicians from local public and private schools including Alain Locke High School, Washington Preparatory High School, Westchester High School and Warren Lane Elementary School (ranging in age from 13 to 20). Sponsored by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the band members receive intensive musical training, performance opportunities, scholarships and private in-school instruction.
Free parking for the concert is available in the Center’s parking lot located at 10957 South Central Ave. The WLCAC Bradley Senior Center will serve lunch to its participating senior citizens.
