Two die in Newton area shooting

Detectives are puzzled over the double slaying of a man and a woman that occurred 11 p.m. on Sunday night.
A gunman allegedly opened fire on two suspects sitting in a parked car and wounded three other women who were sitting on a porch, said detectives.
The man and the woman were seated in a vehicle parked on 48th and Wall Streets when a gunman approached on foot and shot both victims in the head. Police report that the woman died at the scene from her injuries. The man was transported to California Hospital Medical Center, but died of his injuries hours later.
After shooting the victims, the gunman allegedly noticed three women sitting on their porch and opened fire for apparently having witnessed the attack. They were shot in the legs and rushed to California Hospital Medical Center. Police report that the women are currently in stable condition.
“We can’t really establish a motive and we do not have any suspect information,” said Detective Johnny Villa of the Newton Homicide Division.
