The Salvation Army in the city of Bell opened 30 new beds Friday for  homeless people in need of a place to recuperate after hospitalization.
The  beds and facility are part of the Los Angeles Recuperative Care  Demonstration Project (LARCDP) funded by $3 million from local health  providers. LARCDP hopes to add an additional 15 beds in 2008. The 45 new  beds will double the countys existing number of recuperative care beds  for the homeless population with the goal of providing a  self-sustainable, replicable system, according to a LARCDP statement.
