Black History Month kick-off

Bishop Charles E. Blake, actor Forest Whitaker and artist Artis Lane will be honored by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at an awards ceremony to officially kick off the City’s African American Heritage Month celebration at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, in City Hall Council Chambers, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
After the presentation, the celebration will move to the South Lawn of City Hall at 10:30 a.m. for a gospel-filled program featuring presentations by the Mayor, the Our Authors Study Club and remarks by leaders of various prominent African American churches in Los Angeles.
The Walt Disney Company is the title sponsor for the City’s African American Heritage Month events, whose theme this year is “Honoring the Legacy of African Americans and Our Multiculturalism: A vision of a dream kept alive.”
