Good news has arrived for new students planning to attend Community College this fall! The Cal Grant application deadline has been extended until September 5. New students often have concerns concerning costs associated with college, and many worry about how they'll pay for their education.  Oftentimes parents and students will say, "It's too late to enroll in college and get the money I need for tuition, books, supplies, and living expenses."

Millions of dollars of financial aid are left unused, leading to many struggling students unaware of the potential blessings, privileges, and assistance Financial aid offers. Labor Day weekend is usually a fun-filled weekend for many students every year, however, this year on September 2 the fun will have to wait to ensure the correct financial aid forms are complete!

This year the CAL Grant deadline falls on Saturday, September 2,  meaning the best part of the holiday this year will be the extension of the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). As of August 2023, the California Student Aid Commission has seen an increase of 4.6% in completing FAFSA forms.

Students can still enroll now for the fall semester at one of the 116 California community colleges and they still have time to apply for financial aid for the 2023-2024 academic year.  It is important to note that by completing the FAFSA or CADAA by the deadline, students can qualify to receive the most financial aid possible! Students awarded a Cal  Grant may transfer their remaining eligibility to a University of California (UC) or a California State University (CSU) upon transfer from a community college.

The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office encourages interested students to visit icangotocollege.com to enroll, find links to the financial aid forms, and use the college locator tool to get contact information, for their local financial aid office. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and make college a reality today!
