Three persons hospitalized

The medical examiner's office has released the name of a man killed when two vehicles collided in Lancaster, a crash that also left a boy critically injured.

Erik Macias was 38 years old.

The crash was reported about 11:15 p.m. July 29 at the intersection of Avenue L and 20th Street East, according to Det. Jacob Mele of the Lancaster Sheriff's Station.

The preliminary investigation indicated a man in a Lexus was northbound on 20th Street East and reportedly did not stop at the red traffic signal at Avenue L, Mele said.

“As the Lexus drove through the intersection, it collided with a Ford which was traveling westbound on Avenue L with four passengers,'' he said. “The male adult in the rear passenger seat suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A male juvenile suffered significant injuries and is in critical condition at the hospital.''

“Speed appears to be a factor in the collision,'' he said. “The driver of the Lexus is suspected of driving under the influence.''

A news videographer at the scene said three people were hospitalized with critical injuries and one was transported with minor injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this collision was asked to call the traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff Station at (661) 948-8466.
