Shot at party

LANCASTER, Calif.—Aaron Eugene Wallace, 21-years-old, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Dominique Peatry at a party in Lancaster last September, but a second suspect remains at large.

Wallace of Lancaster is accused in the Sept. 5, 2010, slaying of Dominique Peatry, who was gunned down at a party near Nugent Street and Sixth Street East.

Second reward also renewed

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—County officials are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to  whoever fatally shot a 14-year-old girl at a birthday party, and they renewed a $5,000 reward in the case of a worker fatally stabbed at a medical marijuana dispensary.
 
Dominique Peatry, 14, and six other people, aged 13 to 26, were hit when someone fired about 15 shots into a crowd of about 40 guests at a birthday party in Lancaster Sept. 5. Peatry died, but the others survived their wounds.

$5,000 reward

LANCASTER, Calif.—Sheriff's deputies today announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever killed a 14-year-old girl and wounded six people at a Sept. 5 party in Lancaster.

Dominique Peatry of Lancaster was killed and two other females and four males, 13-26 years old, were shot near Nugent Street and Sixth Street East early that Sunday, Nicole Nishida of the sheriff's department said.

Labor Day weekend horror

LANCASTER, Calif.—A 14-year-old girl was fatally shot and six children and adults were wounded at a party Sunday in Lancaster, and authorities are looking for at least two suspects, according to the sheriff’s department.
 
The shooting at Nugent and Sixth Street East occurred shortly before 1 a.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Gibbons said.

Alabama
Freeman A. Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will address the annual African American Business Council luncheon on June 28. Hrabowski, who is chairman of President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Education Excellence for African Americans, has a national reputation for his work studying the performance of minority students in math and science. Hrabowski, named one of the 10 best college presidents in the country by Time magazine, was a child leader in the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham in the 1960s.

The Liberty Counsel filed a motion and a brief in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas seeking to intervene on behalf of a Concepts of Life crisis pregnancy center to defend against a suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Reproductive Rights. The groups seek to impose a permanent injunction before the Human Heartbeat Protection Act goes into effect July 18. Liberty Counsel also filed a brief opposing the ACLU’s request for an injunction. The “Heartbeat” bill states that when a woman seeks an abortion at or after the 12th week, doctors must test for a fetal heartbeat before an abortion is performed and inform the pregnant mother that the child in her womb has a heartbeat. If a heartbeat is detected, a woman cannot have an abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, and if a mother’s life is in danger. “As we promised when the legislation was introduced, Liberty Counsel will defend this law without reservation for the people of Arkansas, born and pre-born,” said Matt Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “No right is more foundational than the right to life. Without life, all other rights are irrelevant,” concluded Staver.
