An Ultimate Transformation Moment

Today’s Ultimate Transformation Moment takes a look at managing stress.

Stress is simply the body’s response to outside stimulus that has been recognized as a potential problem. It can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional, or psychological strain that is perceived as danger or a threat. The heart rate increases, digestion slows, and the rate of your blood flow to major muscle groups slows. Adrenaline also begins to flow, as the fight or flight response kicks in. This can be a positive or negative response.

Setting goals

Today’s Ultimate Transformation Moment focuses on setting goals.

There’s a story told of a father who sets out to teach his sons archery beginning with how to shoot a bow and arrow. Earlier that day, the father had gone into the woods and posted a large target on a tall fence. He then took his sons into the woods to begin their practice. He asks one of his sons, “What do you see?” The son described the trees, the sky, everything but the target in the woods on the fence.

Achieving infinite possibilities through summer transitions

As the summer months come to an end, we look forward to fall and find ourselves in a time of transition.

Today’s Ultimate Transformation Moment focuses on the transition of our health and wellness program as we move from summer to fall.

The habits we’ve formed during the summer are in support of reaching specific individual goals.

As one designated period ends and another begins, it is a great time to start looking at new goals.

An Ultimate Transformation Moment

We sometimes miss opportunities to fully become the person we want to be or enjoy the full riches of life, because we overlook the present moment. We yearn to be somewhere else. Shakespeare writes, “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we often might win by fearing to attempt.”

An Ultimate Transformation Moment

Today’s Ultimate Transformation Moment is a response to questions posed by my clients regarding weight lifting. One of the biggest dilemmas in their fitness journey is how to incorporate weight training into a workout and maintain their cardio, particularly, since there are limited opportunities to train during an already heavily scheduled day.

Most people believe that the best way to lose weight is by using cardio workouts as the main form of exercise. However, weight training will also increase metabolism and continue weight loss.

Across Black America

Here’s a look at African American people and issues making headlines throughout the country.

Alabama
Freeman A. Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will address the annual African American Business Council luncheon on June 28. Hrabowski, who is chairman of President Barack Obama’s Advisory Commission on Education Excellence for African Americans, has a national reputation for his work studying the performance of minority students in math and science. Hrabowski, named one of the 10 best college presidents in the country by Time magazine, was a child leader in the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham in the 1960s.

Arkansas
The Liberty Counsel filed a motion and a brief in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas seeking to intervene on behalf of a Concepts of Life crisis pregnancy center to defend against a suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Reproductive Rights. The groups seek to impose a permanent injunction before the Human Heartbeat Protection Act goes into effect July 18. Liberty Counsel also filed a brief opposing the ACLU’s request for an injunction. The “Heartbeat” bill states that when a woman seeks an abortion at or after the 12th week, doctors must test for a fetal heartbeat before an abortion is performed and inform the pregnant mother that the child in her womb has a heartbeat. If a heartbeat is detected, a woman cannot have an abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, and if a mother’s life is in danger. “As we promised when the legislation was introduced, Liberty Counsel will defend this law without reservation for the people of Arkansas, born and pre-born,” said Matt Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “No right is more foundational than the right to life. Without life, all other rights are irrelevant,” concluded Staver.
