The city of Palmdale will co-host a “Rock the Art: Share the Love” event with AVRocks on Saturday, Feb. 1 from  10 am to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. the Marie Kerr Park Community Building, 39700 30th St. West, in Palmdale. This free event is open to everyone age 5 years and older.

Park staff will provide rocks, paint, brushes and tips to help participants create inspiration and beautiful motivational rocks. After painting, participants will be encouraged to “hide” them nearby with the hope and intention that the finder will be encouraged to share the love as Valentine’s Day approaches, and to share the experience on social media with the hashtags #AVRocks and #RockTheArtPalmdale.

A member from the Facebook page, #AVRocks will be on hand to help share techniques and fun.

“Do you enjoy painting? Do you like to make others happy with random acts of kindness?” asked Joi Christy, Palmdale recreation coordinator.  “The rock movement encourages members of the public to create ‘painted masterpieces’ on rocks, hide them throughout the Antelope Valley, and post the location on social media. The goal is for the finder to take a picture of the found rock, post on social media, using the hashtags again, and either re-hide the rock or keep it for a period of time before re-hiding it.”

For more information, call (661) 267-5675 from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
