A head-on crash between two pickup trucks in Palmdale killed one person and left two others with major injuries.

The collision was reported at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at 170th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Two people were trapped, one in each vehicle, fire officials said. Firefighters used Jaws of Life equipment to free them, officials said.

A 60-year-old man was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on 170th Street, north of Avenue R, when the pickup truck veered into the southbound lane and directly into the path of a 2007 Nissan Frontier, which was driven by a 39-year-old man from the Palmdale, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The motorist in the Nissan, a resident of Palmdale, was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

Paramedics rushed the driver of the Dodge, a resident of Llano, and a passenger in the Nissan, a 29-year-old woman from Palmdale, to Antelope Valley Hospital where both were treated for major injuries.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the crash.

The CHP’s Antelope Valley office asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at (661) 948-8541.
