Notable African-American passings

So many lives were lost across Black America during the year 2020, including an NBA legend, Civil Rights era icons and African-Americans who were felled by police who were charged to protect and serve. In addition to those listed here, Our Weekly hereby honors the countless numbers of Blacks in the US who have succumbed to COVID-19 this year.

The Pew Research Center Survey found that Black Americans are far more likely to say they know someone who has been hospitalized or died as a result of the virus (71 percent) compared to other ethnic groups (Hispanic, 61 percent; White, 49 percent; Asian, 48 percent).

Our thoughts go out to all of the families and friends who have suffered losses in 2020. We are looking forward to the New Year with the hope that through new measures and with the new administration, we can forever be rid of both  plagues that devastate our country—racist behavior and the coronavirus pandemic.
