Officials from the County and City of Los Angeles celebrated the grand opening of Residences on Main located at 6901 S. Main Street in South Los Angeles. Residences on Main, a joint venture between Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD) and LA Family Housing (LAFH), will provide 50 units of permanent supportive housing including 25 units for chronically homeless transition-age youth and 24 families experiencing homelessness.
CRCD and LAFH have taken a corner in South LA that had been condemned by the City in 2010 as a nuisance, and have created a new facility to housing our most vulnerable that are currently experiencing homelessness. Centrally located near commercial shops and multiple transit options, Residences on Main is designed to stabilize and integrate families and youth into the surrounding community.
The building itself features on-site case management and property management offices, communal areas include a handicap accessible community room with a computer center, a bike room, ground-level parking, full-scale security surveillance, state of the art weather control, solar energy panels, a playground for children, a barbecue grill area for outdoor cooking, a central courtyard, community garden, and seven handicap accommodating units.
“When Angelenos said ‘yes’ on Prop HHH, they called on us to advance comprehensive solutions to the moral crisis of homelessness — and even as we confront the immediate challenge of COVID-19, we continue to do the long-term work of creating high-quality housing for our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “The Residences on Main is a story of hope and transformation for this neighborhood, and shows what’s possible when we come together to give our unsheltered neighbors a place to call home.”
“Residences on Main not only represents a new start for each tenant that gets to call it home but solidifies the hope that they have long been yearning for,” said Councilman Curren Price. “It also marks a significant milestone for our South LA community- becoming the first HHH-funded project to be completed in District 9. We are building unshakeable foundations which will allow individuals to fulfill their promise, the courage to blaze their own trails and find their calling in life.”
CRCD provides on-site support services to the residents of its permanent supportive housing complexes to promote economic self-sufficiency, housing stability, and family well-being. They will be the on-site service provider providing case management services in the effort to address the special needs of Residences on Main’s residents with their integration into permanent supportive housing. The organization will integrate their WorkSource’s employment assistance programs, their YouthSource Center’s youth development programs, and Housing Support Services case management and assistance programs to provide a robust array of support to residents in their effort to sustain housing and thrive in the South Los Angeles community.

LA Family Housing was founded to support low-income families experiencing homelessness and poverty in South LA. Since its inception in 1983, the agency has grown to become one of the largest and most comprehensive homeless services providers and real estate developers in Los Angeles County. Now with over 35 years of experience in building affordable housing, LAFH is excited to partner with CRCD and return to its origins for community revitalization.

The Residences on Main housing development continues this investment and reflects the County’s commitment to providing supportive services for success.”
