The city of Santa Clarita is seeking volunteers for the 2019 Santa Clarita Marathon, presented by Parkway Motorcars, which is scheduled for  Nov. 2 and 3. The event, currently in its 24th year, will include a 5K race and 10K race on Saturday, Nov. 2, followed by the Mayor’s Walk, Half Marathon and Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The city of Santa Clarita is seeking volunteers for both race days. Volunteers will get a look at the popular race and are needed to man water stations, serve as Course Monitors to make sure runners are going in the right direction and Zone Captains to oversee Course Monitors. Residents interested in volunteering can sign up at SantaClaritaVolunteers.com. A volunteer orientation is scheduled for Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at The Centre.

Marathon weekend will begin on Friday, Nov.  1, at the Santa Clarita Health and Fitness Expo, presented by Boston Scientific. Runners can pick up their bibs and their official race shirt Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. The expo will be held in the northern parking lot at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, near Chick-Fil-A. At the expo, visitors can connect with various health and fitness vendors on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Runners now have the option to enter a new challenge, the Double Feature and Trilogy options. Runners who register for the 5 and 10K Double Feature should be able to finish the 5K in under one hour. Runners will receive a special medal for completing the challenge.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, runners from near and far will take to the streets of Santa Clarita for the 10K race and 5K, presented by Boston Scientific. On Sunday morning, Nov. 3, runners will compete in either the Marathon or Half Marathon, presented by Parkway Motorcars, while community members participate in the Mayor’s Walk, presented by Henry Mayo Fitness and Health.

Online registration for races is ongoing until Sunday, Oct. 27, while in-person registration will be available during the Health and Fitness Expo only. Runners will NOT be able to register the morning of any race.

The public is encouraged to cheer on runners at various points along the course on both days. Street closures and times will be announced once they are confirmed. In the meantime, Santa Clarita residents can familiarize themselves with course maps online. For questions regarding volunteering, call (661) 250-3708 or email volunteers@santa-clarita.com.
