The Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will host a new STEAM program on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 4 to 5 p.m. It is free and geared to youth ages 5-11.

“STEAM is about using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics in a playful, fun and hands on environment,” said Janet McLagan, circulation supervisor. “STEAM is getting creative and thinking outside the box.”

The STEAM movement has been taking root over the past several years and is surging forward as a positive mode of action to truly meet the needs of a 21st century economy.  It allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with arts practices, elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal.

“Come and join forces with us with magnets this month,” McLagan said. “We may even get a little slimy.”

The library hosts its STEAM program on the second Tuesday of the month from 4 to 5 pm.

The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
