Authorities this week identified a man who was killed when he and two other motorcyclists were rear-ended by a car while stopped at a traffic light in Palmdale.

Vasken Laurancian, 57, of Canoga Park died at the scene of the collision, which happened about 10:30 a.m. July 21 on Pearblossom Highway at 40th Street East, according to the coroner’s office and the sheriff’s department.

Two other motorcyclists were taken to a hospital in serious condition.

“Deputies learned that a 2010 Chevy Cobalt was traveling eastbound on Pearblossom Highway in the number two lane while a group of five motorcyclists were stopped for a red traffic light in front of him at the intersection of 40th Street East,” said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Initial investigation determined the ChevyCobalt driver failed to stop and collided with three of the motorcycles.”

She said the driver of the Cobalt “contacted emergency personnel and rendered aid to the motorcyclists. He was interviewed and released at the scene. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.”

The investigation was continuing at press time.
