Summer is almost here, which means more daylight and more time for lovely outdoor adventures. The city of Santa Clarita is lucky to have access to nearly 12,000 acres of beautiful green open space and over ninety miles of trails for biking, hiking and more. This summer, there are a variety of ways for residents to enjoy Santa Clarita’s natural beauty with family and friends.

Our city takes great pride in caring for and maintaining the trails in our valley for all of us to enjoy. We encourage residents to take their pick from the city’s array of trails, and set out on a bike or a hike to take in the views which are sure to be a beautiful sight after the recent rains. Remember to practice safe trail user habits including packing water, keeping dogs on leashes and staying on the designated paths to make for a safe and enjoyable time.

Have you ever thought about using our off-street bike paths to get to work? Now is the perfect time to do so. “Bike to Work Day” is back on Thursday, May 16. Residents are invited to hop on their bikes and pedal their way to the workplace. There will be pit-stops available throughout the city where cyclists can receive refreshments, giveaways and information on cycling. Santa Clarita Transit and Metrolink riders will ride free on local public transit routes if they have their bike or helmet in tow.

A competition is set to take place to see which local businesses can get the most employees to bike to work! These teams will have the opportunity to win great prizes for their members. In 2018, we had 34 business teams participate in the competition, totaling 227 employees who didn’t drive a car that day. This year, we hope to surpass those numbers! For more information on “Bike to Work Day” and to sign up, visit GreenSantaClarita.com.

Again this year, the Amgen Tour of California is racing back to our city streets! The professional men and women’s cycling race will make its way down from Northern California, coming through Santa Clarita on May 18 for the official Start to the Finish of the race.

This marks the 14th year that Santa Clarita has hosted a stage of the Amgen race—the most stages hosted by a city in the race’s history! Aside from the economic vitality and recognition the race brings to the city, it is also a unique opportunity to get the whole family out to see world-class athletes race through our very own streets.

Want to join in on the cycling fun – but not quite ready to commit to buying a bike? Try out the Pace Bike Share program! This is our first year of partnership with Zagster, and we are glad to see so many of our residents utilizing the bikes. For just one dollar per half hour, residents are able to explore the city’s trails in an accessible, user-friendly way. Take in the fresh air with family and friends as you cruise along our scenic paths, and experience the natural sights and sounds of our beautiful valley.

Getting outside and staying active will be all the easier with the activities and events happening this summer. To stay up to date on information regarding hiking and biking in the city, visit HikeSantaClarita.com and BikeSantaClarita.com.

Have a safe and wonderful experience while enjoying your city.
