Two men were jailed this week after a large methamphetamine seizure in South Los Angeles and police believe both men are part of a bigger drug ring operating in the Los Angeles area.

On March 3, LAPD investigators were checking on reports of drug activity at a motel in the 7400 block of South San Pedro Street  when they spotted a man get into a vehicle at the motel, armed with a gun. The man, identified as Hector Carrillo, 31, was stopped by police who talked with the motel manager and were informed there were two children, ages 8 and 10, alone in the room, police said.

Officers went to the room and found the children alone, as well as duffle bags containing over 100 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $1 million, police said. Carrillo, the father of the two children, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sales and child endangerment.

A second suspect, Cristian Martinez, 25, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

Details of the men’s suspected involvement in a larger Los Angeles drug ring were not immediately disclosed.

Bail was set at $3.2 million for Carrillo and just over $2 million for Martinez.

The children were not injured and were placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.
