Carson plans new LA Premium Outlets

Groundbreaking has taken place for what is expected to be one of the southland’s largest retail centers.  The Los Angeles Premium Outlets will be constructed on a long-vacant parcel of land in Carson.

The premium outlet, the first phase of which will span 400,000 square feet (a second phase will include 166,000 square feet) will feature 2,500 linear feet of frontage along the 405 Freeway. The site has roughly 2.5 million residents within a 10-mile radius and is situated about 11 miles south of LAX.

Over the years, political and business leaders in Carson have worked closely with retail developers Macerich Co. and Simon Property Group to initiate construction. Specifically, city and county leaders believe the Los Angeles Premium Outlets will add revenue for the Greater Los Angeles area by attracting locals and tourists to shop there.

“Our city is thrilled that this exciting project is moving forward, led by Macerich and Simon, two of the country’s biggest names in retail real estate,” said Carson Mayor Albert Robles. “We see this high-quality outlet project as one that will add value to our community for many years to come. It will attract locals and tourists from all over the world.”

As currently planned, the project’s shops and restaurants will be elevated above street-level and sit atop a ground-level parking deck. No tenants have been announced to date.
