The city of Santa Clarita and Southern California Edison have completed installing new street lighting along Bouquet Canyon Road between Festividad Drive and Centurion Way, introducing 42 new Light-Emitting Diode (LED) streetlight fixtures. The installation of these new streetlights are part of the city’s efforts to improve safety on the road for both motorists and pedestrians.

“We’re thrilled to complete this project. We value the fantastic partnership we have with Southern California Edison and appreciate their efforts to provide much needed street lighting to this portion of our community,” said Santa Clarita Mayor  Laurene Weste.  “Bouquet Canyon Road, especially the area fronting Central Park, has been the most requested location for street lighting and we’re very happy to provide these important amenities for our residents.”

Next year the city will continue to do more work to convert existing high pressure sodium light fixtures to LED streetlights. As part of Santa Clarita’s streetlight system purchase, the city will begin taking ownership and converting streetlights to LED fixtures in early 2019. More than 17,000 streetlight poles throughout Santa Clarita are expected to be converted to LED fixtures by the fall of 2019.

The LED fixtures will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 60.5% as compared to the existing light fixtures. The estimated reduction in electricity usage of 6,302,983 kWh per year is equivalent to eliminating the greenhouse gases from 936 automobiles, or eliminating the CO2 emissions from more than 498,434 gallons of gasoline.
