Palmdale City Manager James Purtee recently received a 30-year service award from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the premier local government leadership and management organization.
Purtee’s achievement was presented at ICMA’s 104th annual conference in Baltimore, MD on Sept. 26. He was recognized for his significant contributions and achievements in the advancement of local government administration.
ICMA Service Awards recognize and celebrate members’ dedication to public service and professional management at the local level. Awards are based on the number of years of full-time employment in service to local government.
Purtee became Palmdale’s city manager on Oct 5, 2015. His diverse and thorough public service career began with the city of Simi Valley in 1988 when he started as a Housing Planner and later served as Deputy City Director of Administrative Services and Assistant City Manager.
Holding both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cal State Northridge, Purtee is also a graduate of the International Council of Shopping Centers – Shopping Center University in San Francisco and the Government Finance Officers Association – Advanced Government Finance Institute at the University of Wisconsin, and the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education for senior executives in state and local government program.
