The investigation was continuing this week into the fatal shooting of an Inglewood-area man whose alleged killer was questioned and released, authorities said.

Deputies responded about 9:50 p.m. Monday to a gunshot victim call in the 2100 block of West 109th Place and located the wounded man, who died at the scene, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the man as Calvin Furness Webb, 59, of Los Angeles.

The suspected shooter, who lives at the location, was detained by detectives for questioning and the weapon used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, Koerner said.

That person, whose name was withheld, was released after questioning, and a review of the case by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is pending, said Deputy Trina Schrader.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS or at lacrimestoppers.org.
