A bicyclist in Compton was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist shortly after midnight Monday morning.

The crash happened at Bradfield Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, said Sgt. Daniel Martinez of the sheriff’s Compton station.

The bicyclist — now being identified by family members as 59-year-old Darnell Parker — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Martinez.

“Right now it’s not even about us, the adults; it’s about the children,” Parker’s daughter-in-law, Tracy Brown, told KTLA. “He has children that are going to need him. They’re going to miss out on very important things they can’t even share with their dad, and I just think it’s sad.”

Authorities had no description of the vehicle or motorist, who remains at large, Martinez said.

Compton law enforcement officers asked anyone with any information regarding the crash to call them at (310) 605-6500.
