The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved a $10,000 reward for information leading to whoever gunned down a 20-year-old man in Carson in 2016.
Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas recommended the reward, saying detectives believe there are witnesses who may have seen or know the gunman.
Around 7:45 p.m. May 16, 2016, Aaron Pritchard was standing with friends in front of home in the 1600 block of East Gladwick Street when a Lexus was driven to the scene and a man got out, walked up to the group and began talking before opening fire, according to deputies.
Pritchard was struck by multiple shots and died at the scene. He was a student at New Mexico State University and was home for the summer with his parents, long-time residents of Carson.
The group of friends seemed to know the gunman, a sheriff’s lieutenant told the Los Angeles Times shortly after the shooting.
“That’s what’s kind of strange. It seems like everybody knows who this guy is, except us,’’ sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez told the newspaper.
“He walks up, and they greet each other, a real polite exchange of pleasantries, and then the suspect pulls a handgun and starts shooting at the victim.’’
The gunman continued to shoot at Pritchard after he fell to the ground and then got back into the car and drove off, according to Hernandez.
