Zoo hosts summer ‘Roaring Nights’

There’s lots of fun activities scheduled this summer at the Los Angeles Zoo as “Roaring Nights” returns with amazing animal encounters, live music, unique children’s activities and lots of food.

Scheduled from 6 to 10:30 p.m. June 29 through  September 14, “Roaring Nights” will begin with popular radio personality  Richard Blade who will spin the best of the ‘80s and often poses for photos with fans. Flash Heart Attack will keep you dancing and singing along to the greatest hits and most epic anthems of the ‘80s, while the “Silent Disco” experience will bring back fond memories of one of the most musically innovative decades.

On July 20, “Saved by the ‘90s” will take you back to the “dopest” decade with hits from the Backstreet Boys, Goo Goo Dolls, Smash Mouth, Weezer and Alanis Morissette. DJ Johnny Hawkes offers multi-genre sets of the best in hip hop, funk, pop, classic rock and more.

Highway Star offers the best in country music on August 17. Enjoy cover versions of hits from Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and many more. Johnny Hawkes will return to spin his favorite selection. Richard Blade returns on September 14 along with Flashback Heart Attack.

More than a dozen food trucks will offer a variety of cuisine, including the Deli Doctor, Baby’s Badass Burgers, Austyn’s Burger, the Greasy Wiener, the Grilled Cheese Truck, Lobsta Truck, Epic Tacos, India Jones, Mandoline Grill, Rice Ball of Fire, Okamoto Kitchen, Kogi BBQ, the Paradise Truck and Cool-Haus..

The Los Angeles Zoo hosts one of the nation’s foremost collections of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The botanical gardens is known for its impressive array of plants from around the world.

Tickets for “Roaring Nights” are $21 and $16 for members (limited to adults 21 years and older). A photo ID is required for admission. Purchase tickets at the zoo by 5 p.m. on the day of the event. Parking is free. Food and beverages are not included in the price of admission. Outside food, beverages, coolers and oversized bags will not be permitted.
