The Palmdale City Library will host a number of fun and free recreational activities for the community over the next few days.
The library continues its summer movie series today at 1 p.m., with a showing of the 80’s favorite Goonies.
Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman and Jonathan Ke Quan, Goonies follows a group of kids who discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way.
Other movies scheduled to be shown as part of the Summer Movie Series include “Minions” (rated PG) on June 22, “Cars “(rated G) on June 29, “Nim’s Island” (rated PG) on July 13 and “Ratatouille” (rated G) on July 20.
The Library will host a Wii U gaming session open to all ages on Tuesday, June 19 at 4 p.m.
“It’s an hour and a half of Wii U games and fun,” said Library Associate Samuel Franco. “During our free play sessions gamers can choose any of our games as a group and switch it up as they vote together. We provide the games and controllers, you provide the fun!”
Also on Tuesday, the Palmdale City Library will host the next meeting of the African-American Authors Book Club to discuss the novel “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones on at 6:45 .m..
“An American” Marriage is a story of love, loyalty, race, justice and what happens when the unthinkable happens to “normal” people. A young African-American golden couple who met on the campus of their historically Black college marries soon after graduation and seem poised for success: he’s a rising corporate executive, she’s a promising artist. Then, on a visit to his parents in tiny Eloe, Louisiana, Roy is falsely accused of a terrible crime.
The African American Authors Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. New members are welcome to attend.
The Palmdale City Library’s mystery book discussion group “Mystery, Murder and Mayhem” will discuss the book “Recollections of Murder” by David Howard on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Highway.
“Recollections of Murder,” the first book in Howard’s Joe Brandt Thrillers series, is a fast-paced suspense drama with memorable characters, strong conflicts and genuine psychological resonance. Brandt is a conflicted assistant district attorney acting as prosecutor in a high-profile case that could make or break his career. He can relate to his case’s only witness, but that resonance could either drive him to victory or bring him crashing down.
The Mystery, Murder and Mayhem book discussion group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center. The group is open to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
