Another Black man is dead as a result of being shot to death by police, and once again, no charges will be filed against the officers involved. And once again, it happened in Minnesota. Recall a few years ago how Philando Castille was shot to death by an officer of the law when after he informed the officer during a traffic stop that he had a weapon and was going to remove it. The latest case is that of Thurman Blevins, who allegedly ignored repeated commands to show his hands… police claim instead he reached for a gun in his pocket as he turned toward the officers and he was fatally shot. “Mr. Blevins represented a danger to the lives of the officers, thereby making the shooting authorized under state law, said Mike Freeman, Hennepin County attorney in a statement. It was added that witness testimony, body camera footage and forensic information proved that the suspect had a gun in his hand. However, it was also reported that the two officers involved in the shooting fired 14 shots, with four hitting Blevins. Authorities released bodycam footage of the 31-year-old Blevins fleeing police as they order him to stop and drop his weapon. Blevins is heard shouting back, “Leave me alone” and “I did nothing bro.” The footage was just made available to the public and the press about the same time it was announced that no charges would be filed against the officers.
