Former Angels slugger Vladimir Guerrero, known for his aggressive batting style and long considered one of the most feared hitters in the game, is headed to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted as an Angel.
“To all baseball writers who considered me a Cooperstown member. Thank you!,” Guerrero posted on his Twitter page following the vote.
Guerrero helped lead the Angels to five American League West pennants during his six years with the club, and he was named American League Most Valuable Player in 2004, his first year in Anaheim.
He had a career batting average of .318, belting 449 home runs and collecting 1,496 RBIs. He was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame last summer. It was still unclear, however, if Guerrero will go into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as an Angel. He spent his first eight years with the Montreal Expos.
Guerrero, who collected 92.9 percent of the vote from baseball writers to be elected to the Hall, was one of four players chosen. Former Padres closer Trevor Hoffman was also elected, along with sluggers Chipper Jones and Jim Thome.
They will be inducted in a ceremony July 29.
