It looks like 2018 could be a banner year for films featuring Black casts and directors. “Black Panther” got so much hype prior to its official opening that it earned record box office number in pre-sales before it even came out. And now the hype has begun for “A Wrinkle in Time,” which features award-winning Black director Ava Duvernay as well as a heavyweight cast that includes Oprah Winfrey. The film doesn’t debut until March, but it is already receiving major endorsements as well as a great deal of hype. Now Duvernay has announced that the movie soundtrack will feature a number of music stars as well. Probably the biggest surprise is that the lead song reportedly comes from Sade, who wrote an original song for the flick. On social media, Duvernay wrote: “I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We begin a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for Wrinkle in Time. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.” And it’s a dream come true.” Other music stars on the soundtrack include DJKhaled, Demi Lovato, Sia, Kehlani and more. Soundtracks can rake in millions as well as movies. The “Black Panther” soundtrack, produced by Kendrick Lamar, has already reached No. 1 on Billboard album charts.
