Brett Bothelo, a para-snowboarder, author and  and motivational speaker, will discuss his book “Standing My Own Ground,” at 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Palmdale City Library.

“Standing My Ground” is the inspirational story of Bothelo’s battle with chronic illness and lifelong surgeries which eventually resulted in one of his legs being amputated below the knee. Despite his trials, Bothelo says he lives his life by the motto of “can” rather than “cannot.”

Bothelo has spoken throughout the Southwest and also in Washington, D.C. He’s training for the United States Para Snowboard Team and has a goal of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium

The following Saturday, Feb. 24, Friends of the Palmdale Library will conduct a

“Fill-A-Bag” clearance book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gently used books will be available for sale by the bag.

“It is very simple and the best bargain you will find on used books,” said Tina Victory, president of Friends of the Palmdale Library. “You start by purchasing the bag size of your choice, then fill your bag from the large selection of books. You will find hardback and softcover in many different genres. There will also be a special selection of LPs, DVDs and CDs available at special pricing.”

All profits go to support the library.

“Something new in 2018 is that all Friends of the Library members will have the opportunity to shop early, starting at 9 am,” Victory said. “Doors open to the public at 10 am. Membership may be purchased at the door for $5 a year to any non-members looking to shop early.”

Friends of the Palmdale City Library is a nonprofit organization staffed by community volunteers and dedicated to raising money for the support of the library.

The Palmdale Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. On Sunday.
