The Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.,  is offering  a series of free chess lessons next month for all ages.

The classes will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 and the next evening Sept. 6.

Each class will cover a different topic, including tactics and strategies, understanding the opening, analyzing the middlegame and studying the endgame.  Chess lessons will be taught by Arman Baradaran, FIDE (Federation Internationale des Echecs) Arena Grand Master and US Chess Federation Candidate Master.

Then on Saturday, Sept.  8 at 11 am, class attendees and the public will be invited to test their skills and participate in a simultaneous exhibition with Baradaran.

“I think chess is a wonderful way to tap into the depths of your mind and activate your brain,”  Baradaran said.
