The upcoming VintageVibe Festival, a music and lifestyle event that bridges vintage sound with modern day-artists, has taken a special approach to helping children in Los Angeles’ child welfare system by partnering with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Los Angeles.
CASA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works one-on-one with children in foster care who have experienced abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers, also called Advocates, work closely with a child to form a trusting relationship, giving that child a friend and someone who cares. Advocates help children in important ways such as comforting them through emotional trauma and transition, arranging for needed health care and social services, talking with teachers, participating with children in enriching activities, and advising judges about the child’s welfare. CASA LA is among the largest of regional programs in a national and state-wide volunteer network serving children in foster care. Studies have shown that children with CASAs receive more assistance and support than children without, and are more likely to be adopted or returned to their families and less likely to reenter the child welfare system.
CASAs has a five-pronged focus of Advocate, Support, Investigate, Report, and Recommend, which has proven to improve the lives of these youth.
VintageVibe, which will be held at the Santa Anita Park on Saturday, Sept. 15, has announced a “Bring a Kid to Help a Kid” promotion, wherein all $5 children’s tickets (ages 6-17) purchased with an adult ticket directly benefit CASA of LA’s advocacy for abused and neglected children in the LA County foster care system. This is on top of any donations made to CASA with standard tickets at the online checkout and the generous donation the festival has already made to CASA/LA.
The festival will feature artists such as The Shelters, Las Cafeteras, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Low Cut Connie, Eryn Allen Kane and others spread across three stages.
In addition to the multitude of musical performances and vendors the festival will also feature lots of retro-centric activities including pin-up photo shoots, old school photo booths, barbers & stylists, make-up artist, iconic and classic cars, retro video games, food trucks and more. There will also be a children’s playground, costumed entertainers, face painting, ping-pong and pool tables, ski-ball, corn hole, and other lawn games.
“VintageVibe has really gone above and beyond in making us their official charity benefactor for this amazing, kid-friendly event,” said Wende Nichols-Julien, CEO of CASA of LA. “I think the concept of “bringing a kid to help a kid” will hit home with a lot of parents who can appreciate what children need to thrive, and the challenges kids in the social welfare system face without a parent in their lives.”
The festival will be held at Santa Anita Race Park, 285 Huntington Dr, Arcadia, from noon to 10 p.m.
