Hospital Community Resource Center, 44151 15th Street West, in Lancaster. The free hour-long lecture will define bullying and offer insight into:

• What is bullying? How can someone distinguish bullying from meanness?

• What are symptoms and warning signs of children and adults who are bullied?

• What are the causes and risk factors of bullying?

• What are the effects of bullying?

• What can be done about bullying?

“As the school year starts, bullying is a prescient issue. A study from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services showed more than 70 percent of young people have seen bullying in their school,” said Roger Girion, PhD., and executive director of Antelope Valley Hospital’s mental health department. “Dr. Risley is a board-certified psychiatrist who will offer unique insight into the problem of bullying.”

Opened in 1971, the hospital’s mental health unit is the only inpatient facility of its kind in the Antelope Valley.  The staff includes an expert team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists, mental health technicians and clinical social workers.
