The newly formed non-profit organization Melanite Historia has begun work on a Utah African American History Museum set to open in September of 2019, reports Good4Utah.com. The organizers, Lex Scott and Sophia Yeiss, found each other through the Utah chapter of Black Lives Matter. The organization Melanite Historia is currently working on getting non-profit status.  The organizers say that they hope to find about 4,000 square feet in Salt Lake City for the museum. “I’ve already been approached by families who have artifacts; we have descendants of slaves in this state and they want their families’ information in the museum. We have plenty to give and say about the past, present and future African Americans in this state.” The group is actively looking for people to help make the project happen.
