Just days after Starbucks was thrown into a public relations nightmare for racially profiling two Black businessmen in Philadelphia, an LA Fitness gym in Secaucus, New Jersey, got busted for doing a very similar thing. Two Black men were working out in an LA Fitness location – one with a membership and one on a guest pass – when they were asked to leave. When they refused, the LA Fitness staff member called the cops. Once police arrived, it was verified that bother men – who were friends – were not in the gym illegally. But even after the police left, the LA Fitness staffer said they were banned from the gym. After the incident hit social media, LA Fitness began to scramble to fix the situation. The two men were offered apologies and welcome back into the gym, while it was learned that three LA Fitness staff members at that location were fired. As for Starbucks, the chain will be closing some 8,000 stores on May 29 across the country for race sensitivity sessions for its employees.
