Storytelling is a time tested way to share wisdom, pass on sacred teachings and transmit values even in our information overloaded climate. Join tellers Michael McCarty, Antonio Sacre and Karen Golden on April 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at Moonwater Farm in Compton, 544 W. Raymond St., for an afternoon that will move you, make you laugh and remind you of the beauty of practicing community.
Michael McCarty is a vital member of Afro-American storytellers of today who seek to fulfill the role of griot – by making sure that the world is continually made aware of the achievements and contributions of the people of the African diaspora.
Antonio Sacre grew up bilingually in a Cuban and Irish-American household and his stories have inspired children worldwide to gather their own family stories and become storytellers themselves. His stories have been published in award-winning books and audio recordings.
Karen Golden’s mesmerizing stories marry age-old values with rollicking saxophone and amazing sound effects! She has inspired thousands of curiosity seekers young and old through her work as an international performer and the founding director of the homeschool learning center, Creative Learning Place.
Moonwater Farm is an ideal location to sit out in the garden and hear tales that keep traditions alive, voice the narratives of Black lives, history and traditions, reasons for lliving and realizing hopes and dreams. The event is perfect for those who enjoy a good story. There will be music, crafts, food and refreshments.
