The Palmdale City Library’s Mystery Book Discussion Group “Mystery, Murder and Mayhem” will discuss the book Spider Woman’s Daughter by Anne Hillerman on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Hwy.

“Spider Woman’s Daughter” is the story of Navajo Nation police officer Bernadette Manualito who witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter.

Tony Hillerman’s 18 mysteries followed the investigations of Navajo cops Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee.. Following Hillerman’s death in 2008 the series was relaunched by his daughter, Anne.

The Mystery, Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Discussion Group meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center. The group is open to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.

The discussion also provides disabled access with 72 hours’ notice. To request special aids for the disabled or for more information, please call the Palmdale City Library at 267-5600 or TDD 267-5167.
